Erfarenhet:I have completed my 120 hours TEFL qualification with the TEFL Academy (accredited by World TEFL Accrediting Commission) to improve the quality of my teaching. From July 2015 until July 2016 I was an assistant language teacher at Ishigaki High School ( ages 15-18) and Ishigaki Special Needs School (ages 4-18) in Okinawa Japan as part of the Japanese Exchange Teaching (JET) program. During this time my duties included liaising with staff, making lesson plans and attending meeting in relation to the general running of the school. In class my lessons were taught in part by a Japanese English Teacher and myself, using both Japanese and English to conduct class. However, I taught myself Japanese in spare time and eventually I conducted classes by myself in Japanese. I now hold an N4 Japanese language proficiency test qualification. I also voluntarily ran an after school eikawa club, where students could come and practice their English through general conversation and pop-culture activities such as watching movies and listening to music. I had the pleasure of attending the Okinawa Skills and Development Conference (SDC), an event aimed at developing the skills of English teachers in Okinawa. I was asked to help prepare students for their college entrance exams and EIKAN (and English proficiency test for Japanese citizens).
Since returning to Ireland in August 2016 I have taught Japanese on a part time basis to Irish students as part of their Leaving Certificate (Irish equivalent of Gymnasieskola).I have taught English on a voluntary basis to adult refugees and low income migrants in the migration centre Cork, Ireland, a cause which is very close to me. The aim of these classes was to help these peoples assimilate into Irish society. During the year I also continued to study languages and diversify my skill set. I took night classes in Arabic at University College Cork.
